Y’s 2004 가을 컬렉션은 거친 질감의 언어로 쓰였다. 투박한 모토(Moto) 레더와 빛바랜 아미 그린의 조합. 얼핏 보기에 그것은 차가운 전장의 군복이거나, 도시를 질주하는 반항적인 바이커의 유니폼처럼 다가온다. 철저히 기능적이고, 동시에 방어적인 껍질이다.
그러나 요지 야마모토는 이 무거운 갑옷 사이로 강렬한 붉은 섬광(Red Flash)을 심어놓았다. 그 찰나의 붉음으로 인해 투쟁심은 서정적인 시가 되고, 저항은 곧 사랑이 된다. 요지는 ‘반란(Rebellion)’이라는 가장 날 선 감정을, 세상에서 가장 우아하고 고독한 ‘낭만(Romance)’으로 치환해냈다.

The Y’s Fall 2004 collection is scripted in a language of rugged textures. Heavy moto leather meets faded army green. At first glance, it evokes the cold armor of the battlefield or the defiant uniform of an urban biker—thoroughly utilitarian, yet deeply protective.
Yet, amidst this heavy shell, Yohji Yamamoto implants sudden, piercing flashes of red. With that singular hue, aggression softens into poetry; resistance transforms into love. He masterfully transmutes ‘rebellion’—the sharpest of emotions—into a romance that is as elegant as it is solitary.
